@Regrann from @psychvictims – #DevilDriver’s Dez Fafara Blasts #MedicalIndustry Over #ADD/#ADHD #Medication http://loudwire.com/devildriver-dez-fafara-blasts-medical-industry-over-addadhd-medication/?trackback=twitter_mobile @Loudwire DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara has lashed out at the medical community, warning fans not to use prescription medications such as Adderall and Ritalin to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in children.
He told Overdrive — a music news website based in Ireland — that “Feeding people with shit like Adderall and Ritalin [it’s] pushing these kids to the most fucking darkest place possible and that is leading to manifesting suicidal thoughts, with a majority, sadly, taking their own lives.” Fafara should know. He has suffered from ADHD for a long time and has been open about his experiences with the condition. Remarkably, over the years he has learned to turn the so-called disorder into a tool for creativity.
“I treat ADD and ADHD like a fucking miracle,” he said. “I can run four businesses on about five hours sleep a night and have no problem getting all my shit done because I have ADD and ADHD and people try to back that down.”
He elaborated on his point by making an analogy to the way people treat energetic animals. “If you have a hyperactive dog, you don’t just chain him to a fence, you let him run around,” he said. “That’s what needs to be done with people who have ADHD. They need focus [and have] tasks and goals to achieve, and when they put their minds to something, it’s a fucking incredible force that is so powerful compared to the normal or what is considered ‘normal’ brain.”
Sadly, he says, rather than learn how to take advantage of the assets of the condition, many parents with unruly children are quick to turn to medication. “Most parents are fucking lazy and spend most of their time listening to doctors, who are straight-up wrong when diagnosing ADD/ADHD,” Fafara said. “They are saying, ‘Hey, give your kid this pill and he/she will be more focused.’ They might get more focused, but six months down the line, there is a possibility they might kill themselves. I’d like to see the end of all of these fucked-up drugs for good.” – https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu67qJ5ABU9/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1vcq9y60lv96
